With an all star
line up of international acts:
ROCK IN RIO, the most important international Festival worldwide is back not only with another edition but a brand new site: LISBON, PORTUGAL.
ROCK IN RIO LISBON 2004 is already on its way to showcase 6 days full of music with an all star line up led by British legend Paul McCartney as well as Peter Gabriel, Sting, Metallica, Evanescence, Incubus, Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, Guns’n’Roses, The Black Eyed Peas, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals and Spanish heartthrob Alejandro Sanz among the acts staged in the WORLD STAGE.
The event will take place from May 28-30 and June 4-6 in the newly built City of Rock located in the beautiful Bela Vista Park within the city limits of Lisbon. The brainchild of the musical extravaganza is Brazilian entrepreneur Roberto Medina, who also was behind the previous three editions (1985, 1991, 2001) celebrated in Brazil which all together gathered around 3.5 million people. He’s taking the trademark to Europe for the first time one week before the biggest sports competition in the continent, the Euro Cup 2004 takes place in the same city. The site is being built in an area of 200 thousand square meters fit to receive a total of 500 thousand people (100 thousand people a day), 70 attractions (Portuguese, Brazilian and international acts) during an impressive 120 hours of shows.
Following its predecessors the Portuguese version of Rock in Rio will have four stages: World Stage (Main Stage), Roots Tent, A Better World Tent and the Electro Tent. The tradition started with Rock in Rio 3 (2001) of having a social message involved: PEACE FOR A BETTER WORLD. The project will contribute from 2% to 5% of all Net proceeds from the Festival to the Plan Childreach International Organization. Already 250.000 Euros have been donated by Rock in Rio Lisbon on behalf of Sponsorship.

The visitors will not only have the World Stage, the Electronic Tent by Smirnoff Experience and the Roots Tent, but also 14 daily hours of enjoyment, with an area denominated “Radical” , dedicated to sports; debates on the Better World Tent; and other attractions such as a food court and a mini shopping center. The Social Project The main focus of Rock in Rio Lisbon’s social project is centered on programs destined to improve the lives of children and youngsters. The Plan Childreach International with over 60 years of existence in 43 countries around the world, will be the benefitted organization. With the objective of sponsoring the education and life quality of less fortunate children and their communities, the organization Rock in Rio already donated 250 thousand euros to this institution and hopes to reach a million euros from ticketing. The SIC Esperanca also compromises to take part of the ticketing proceeds to different initiatives sponsored by the organizors of Rock in Rio Lisbon for benefit institutions recognized by their projects in favor of Portuguese children and youngsters.
